Persepolis Cover Redesign

If I were to redesign the cover the Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi I would try to design it so it allowed someone to get a better understanding of what the book is about just by looking at it. The actual cover is fairly simple. It features the title with the statement "The story of a childhood" below the title, which doesn't even indicate who's childhood the story is about. It also has a picture of Marji in a veil looking forward with her arms crossed. Just by looking at the current cover, the only thing a viewer would gather about the book is that it is about a girls childhood. They would also probably assume that the girl is of Islamic faith due to the veil. The viewer wouldn't know anything else about the context and may wonder, "Why should I care about this childhood?"  I would change the statement below the title from 'The story of a childhood" to something more descriptive such as "The story of my childhood during the Iranian Revolution." This would give the viewer a better idea of who's childhood the story is about, and why they should care about the story. Indicating that the story is set in the Iranian Revolution may draw in history fanatics or readers who are curious how a revolution impacts someones childhood. I would also change the image on the cover. I like that the current image features Marji, but it doesn't add much context to what the story is really about. I would keep the same image of Marji, but add a background that would indicate more of what the story is about. I would selects a background from the book that would show the revolution (maybe the top panel on page 5 where the protestors are protesting for and against the veil). This would help give the viewer more information about the story from a visual standpoint. Overall I like the current cover, but I feel it may draw in more readers in if the cover had more information on it about the story.
